Reflection - June 3

Today we have done well on Candy. We practiced it a few times and i think it is almost performance quality, which is really good. The tempo on the kolintang was already on point and has improved since the last day we practiced the song. On previous days the some of the kolintang had problem with the tempo of Candy but today there seems like the problem is no longer there. We practiced it really well and this caused us to start thinking of the last song, Wavin' Flag. We only had a couple of weeks left to practice the whole performance and its really good that we are starting to think about the last song. We spent about 10-15 minutes really discussing on how the performance should be and the singer for the song starts to sing the intro to the song although one singer for the song is missing someone stepped up to replace him hopefully just for the day.

Reflection - 1st of June

On this day we spent the whole class on practicing Candy. The idea at first was to perform the Music Videos that we chose on stage. That now seems like its not going to happen because although we have practiced for Candy I think that the choreography will take to long to learn for any of the songs because we haven't even started on the third and final song, Wavin' Flag. On this day we practiced Candy really well and i think it was already decent enough for us to perform although it is not perfect yet.

Reflection - 28th of May

On the 28th of May we really started to properly practice the second song Candy. This is good because so far we spent most time only on one song but in my opinion Greased Lightning is the hardest song to practice/perform. On this day the singers decided that they actually were better singing in a higher key. This affected some of the instruments to change notes. This was fine as long as the singers sing well. I also played kolintang for this song.

Reflection 2

A week ago which is the 27th of May is what I can remember the last time we practiced the Greased Lightning song. This is good because we still have 2 more songs to work on and not really much time to do it. We practiced it a couple of more times that day and we felt that it is already really nice and good. The kolintang's timing has already improved massively compared to the first time we practiced it. But although it is already good there is one person who plays a massive role on this song that is absent most of the time which is a massive letdown for the class. On that day as well we started on the second song Candy.

Reflection

About two weeks ago, which is  May 20 we were still working on Greased Lightning. At that time we were still working hard on Greased Lightning which is only the first out of the three songs that we are going to perform. At that time we weren't even thinking about the other songs and were really focused on only Greased Lightning. I think we did struggle a bit because we spent a lot of time only on one song. I am playing the kolintang for this song.

Battle of The Countries research

BATTLE OF THE COUNTRIES

Different Possibilities:
  • Same genre different countries
  • A specific period of time but different countries
  • ‘War’
  • Music nowadays mixed with old music from different countries
  • A mashup but like a battle mashup
  • Traditional music from different countries.
  • Modern music from different countries
  • Music that changed the world from different countries.
  • Different countries but played with the same instrument
  • Music of revolutions
  • A musical of a battle
  • Legends from different countries
Top 3 ideas:

  1. Music that changed the world from different countries
  2. Music of revolutions (wars)
  3. Music nowadays mixed with old music from different countries

Music that changed the world from different countries

It would be a great idea to have music from different countries that changed the world…
For example Gangnam style helped the world to realize that famous catchy music doesn’t have to be always english. As I have mentioned Gangnam style from Korea it could get mashed up with thriller from Michael Jackson. It was the first music video actually created that matched the music. From then on people started doing music videos that made the songs more famous and attracting.
Song possibilities:
  • Psy - Gangnam Style (South Korea)
  • MJ - Heal The World (USA)
  • Beatles (United Kingdom)

Revolution Music

What I think we can do is that we perform music that was from the revolutions. I think that 3 revolutions which means 3 songs is a good number for us to perform. This would mean that we have to learn 3 songs.
Song possibilities:

  1. Yankee doodle - American revolution
  2. Carmagnole - French revolution
  3. Maju tak gentar - Indonesian revolution

Music nowadays mixed with old music from different countries

I think we can perform with 6 songs from different countries but each countries has has 2 songs that is from the modern era and the old era mixed together. So the songs from the both era will battle with different countries.

Song possibilities:
Indonesia: Tulus Gajah - Jali - jali
America: Taylor swift blank space - willy boy
South Korea: Gangnam style - arirang
